Bolton were exiting the EFL's digital collective. A group of member clubs that are provided digital services that have been white labelled and packaged up for each club. This approach, although cost effective provided limited opportunities for the club to monetise their platforms or to imprint their identity for fans to feel ownership of the digital platforms.
This new site and app launch allowed us to really push the boundaries of their visual identity and transform their print brand guidelines into something digital first with a focus on movement and gestural interaction
As part of the project we took a deep dive into the clubs history reviewing. Its highs and its lows and how the crest, kits and stadiums evolved over the years. We worked with the clubs historian to understand various visual elements of the club and how these have changed along with the clubs successes.
Utilising key graphical elements we built a design system for the club that gave them a set of distinct visual adornments, as well as providing a 'frame' for the clear presentation of data.
